Freedom Bakery

Freedom Bakery began nine years ago selling their yummy gluten-free products at the Tokai Earth Fire market. Three-years-ago the owner Natasha Mandiringa left the Tokai market and opened up her bakery in Bergvliet.

The gluten-free bakery sells everything from gluten-free croissants to gluten-free wraps and even gluten-free desserts such as cakes and muffins. All of Freedom Bakery’s baked goods are listed on their website and are all made on site by their staff. The bakery offers breakfast, lunch and has a wide choice of delicious meals with vegan options included.

What makes Freedom Bakery so special is that it is not only a bakery. They sell products from other local suppliers such as quiches, veggies, sauces, jewelry and household items. 

The bakery has a cozy and homely feel to it. The staff were so incredibly welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious. I ordered a gluten-free croissant with eggs and bacon and was left so happy and so surprised. I have never had a gluten-free croissant until now and I was so surprised at how delicious it was. I was too full to try any of their desserts after my croissant but I couldn’t resist taking home two of their huge and delicious looking muffins. I took the Coffee & Lemon Poppy Seed muffin and the Cappuccino muffin. Both were so yummy and so so reasonably priced! For a jumbo gluten-free muffin it was only R20.

The Freedom Bakery is most definitely affordable and fantastic value for your money. My big egg and bacon croissant that came with a side salad cost as little as R47 and together with the two jumbo muffins the bill came to R87.00 (without tip). It doesn’t get better than that!

The bakery offers an array of gluten-free breads, rolls, wraps and even pizza bases. A few of their products include: 

  • Sweet Potato Bread made from sweet potato flour, millet flour, coconut milk, coconut oil, yeast and salt 
  • Coconut Rolls made from coconut flour, coconut milk, bicarb, Himalayan salt
  • Coconut Wraps made from coconut flour, coconut milk, bicarb, Himalayan salt
  • Banting Loaf made from almond flour, coconut flour, coconut oil, flax seed powder, seed flour, seeds, coconut cream, coconut milk, bicarb, Himalayan salt.

I would recommend this gorgeous and unspoilt little bakery to everyone, whether they are gluten-intolerant or not.
